Creating Spaces Where Children Can Learn, Play, and Heal

Bright Horizons Foundation refreshes children’s space at The Apostles’ House

This spring, the Apostles’ House was honored to receive support from the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children through a special room refresh project at our 28–30 Grant Street shelter location.

The project transformed our children’s playroom into a more welcoming, engaging, and developmentally supportive environment for the children and teens we serve. The refreshed space now includes educational furniture, updated learning and play areas, and dedicated space designed with older youth and teens in mind.

This partnership began through the kindness of a Bright Horizons employee who has consistently supported the Apostles’ House through donations of essential items for families in shelter. That connection grew into a larger conversation about how creating safe, nurturing environments can positively impact children experiencing homelessness We know that environment matters—especially for children navigating trauma, instability, and transition. Spaces that encourage learning, creativity, comfort, and social connection can help children feel safer, more supported, and more like children again.

We are deeply grateful to the Bright Horizons Foundation and the volunteers who helped bring new life to this important space. We are also excited to continue the partnership as discussions begin around future refresh projects for the dining room and office spaces at 28–30 Grant Street.
